For over 40 years, I have devoted myself to advancing reconciliation efforts between First Nations and non-Indigenous.

Let’s join together to “Wear the Blanket", creating a new story while honoring the blanket as a significant representation of our vibrant history.

LEGACY 634

Drawn to the enduring legacy of this iconic blanket, after fashioning it into a jacket, I aspired to share its powerful story through an indigenous driven collection.

Twenty years later, through a remarkable chance encounter, I met :himikalas, an icon in her own right. It’s a great honor to work with her promoting indigenous culture and fashion.

Together we “Wear the Blanket”, honoring the nobility of its story and as restitution for generations to come.

HONOR THE STORY

The Hudson’s Bay Point Blanket first made its apperance in the late 1600s when the English traded it with Indigenous communities in exchange for beaver hides. The wool material, produced in England by a felting process, served to insulate from freezing temperatures. This made the blanket an incredible asset to both Indigenous and colonizing communities.

The bold stripe pattern has remained unchanged, a timeless look over generations. These stripes also serve to remind us of the grief and devastation experienced by Indigenous communities when colonizers exploited the blanket trade in criminal acts of genocide. This blanket carries with it stories of survival, betrayal, Indigenous legacy, and communal reconciliation.
